COP26: What Is at Stake?

What’s the issue?

This Sunday world leaders will convene at the biggest climate change meeting that has occurred since the Paris Climate Agreement was signed in 2015.

Why does it matter?

Many observers are portraying this as the last major world meeting that is planned before it will be too late to bend the carbon curve sufficiently to achieve the stated goal of the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature increases from human activity below 2 degrees Celsius .

What’s our view?

There will be tremendous pressure on world leaders to agree to take more aggressive steps than those currently contained in each country’s plan, referred to as its nationally determined contribution (NDC). Clearly, decisions made by the U.S. will have a direct impact, but the actions taken by other countries will also impact the future of LNG and hydrogen, which will impact U.S. markets as well.
